We are really very lucky here at Grittleton House. Our impressive Manor House and the surrounding expansive grounds provide us with the opportunity to host weddings all year-round.
We take a keen interest in seeing how our couples utilise the venue across the changing seasons so we thought it might be useful to shine a spotlight on a few of the reasons why we love hosting weddings all year round.
Spring is a time of rebirth and new beginnings so what better time to begin the next chapter of your love story? Daffodils and Tulips can be found across the grounds, greeting you as you arrive along the private tree-lined drive and bursting from the flowerbeds in the Italian Garden.
Speaking of flowers, you really are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing seasonal flowers for your bouquets, buttonholes and decorations. We particularly love seeing an abundance of ranunculus, peonies and hydrangeas.
When it comes to sourcing suppliers, many will be less in demand than during the peak summer months providing you with more choice.
But, in our opinion, the best thing about Spring is that it is Goldilocks season! It's not too warm, it's not too cold, it's just right! You have the potential for a lovely warm day and beautiful soft light at sunset just perfect for some romantic photos.
The possibilities really are endless when it comes to celebrating your wedding at Grittleton House during the summer as the longer days provide an opportunity to utilise the extensive house and grounds to their fullest potential.
You can make the most of having your ceremony or your reception in the Orangery overlooking the beautiful Italian Gardens. The flowerbeds and hanging baskets are fit to bursting providing the perfect outlook and also providing a fantastic backdrop for your formal photos.
Lawn games such as croquet and boules are always a popular choice to keep your guests entertained and do we even need to mention the blue skies and the beautiful golden light as the sun sets?
Summer also provides a huge variety of tasty seasonal options for your menu – fresh salads, crunchy vegetables, sweet summer fruits and let us not forget the G&Ts, ice-cold beers, Prosecco and Pimms!
Autumn continues to be a popular season for weddings. With the heat of the summer starting to recede but with the days remaining long and golden, we’re not surprised that September and October are popular dates for wedding celebrations.
Autumn is a particularly great season for wedding inspiration and we’re happy to say that autumn colour palettes are very well suited to complement both the yellow and red galleries. Burnt oranges, coppers, deep rich reds, burgundy and gold – there are so many possibilities!
Take a wander through the grounds and you may even stumble across some autumn colours in the trees
With bonfire night taking place in November, you could also choose to add sparklers to your plan. Fireworks might also be possible although please note that this is by request only here at Grittleton House.
Choose warming dishes for your wedding breakfast menu – seasonal soups, tasty roasts and much more besides!
Here at Grittleton we are lucky to be surrounded evergreen trees meaning that you will find greenery across the grounds even in the coldest, darkest months of Winter.
But, the fact is, there are so many rooms at your disposal within the house itself that you needn’t step outside unless you choose to do so. Cosy up indoors and decorate the function rooms with candles and lanterns. If you do choose to utilise the Orangery then heaters are on hand to make sure your guests are comfortable.
Make your guests feel extra cosy by choosing comforting dishes for your wedding breakfast. Seasonal soups, warm sticky toffee pudding, mulled wine… come and have a chat to discuss the many options that are available.
For weddings happening close to Christmas you can also benefit from the house already being decorated for the festive season – you will find multiple Christmas trees lining the hallways and the tower is fitted with a cascade of fairy lights which can make a unique backdrop for some romantic couples photos.
