You're required to hold public liability insurance of at least GBP 2m, and we also recommend appropriate wedding insurance. A copy of your public liability insurance must be shared with the team within 28 days of booking.

Of course! Confetti is a joyful part of your wedding day - we ask that you use natural, fresh or dried petals, in keeping with our eco-conscious values.

Yes - as an exclusive-use wedding venue, we only hold one wedding per day, so you'll have full use of your wedding areas on your date. We may occasionally show prospective clients around the house on your wedding date, but these visits are discreet and take place before your guests arrive for the ceremony.

Overnight guests from the previous day's event may also be checking out on the morning of your wedding.

There's a selection of silk flowers around the house in neutral tones to suit any colour palette, however we don't provide additional fresh flowers as part of your wedding booking. 

Your dogs are very welcome to join the ceremony, drinks reception and photos. They're not permitted in the Drawing Room or Dining Rooms, and we ask for them to be collected before the wedding breakfast.

Dogs must be kept on a lead and under control at all times. We offer 2 pet-friendly Stables Bedrooms, dogs are not permitted in the House Bedrooms.

Yes - while we offer a curated list of trusted suppliers who know Grittleton House well, you're welcome to bring in your own favourites. We're always happy to meet new suppliers who can help bring your vision to life. All suppliers must meet our insurance and safety requirements (see our T&Cs).

We ask that guests respect the house, which is Grade II listed - please don't attach anything to the walls or floors, and check with us first if you're unsure. Candles are permitted on mantlepieces and tables in suitable holders, but real candles aren't allowed along the aisle or on floors - there are plenty of safe alternatives.

We offer dining rooms of varying sizes, the spaces are all flexible. The Galleries depending on configuration each seat a max of 102 guests on round tables and 126 guests on long tables. The Orangery seats up to a max of 196 guests on round tables and less if on long tables. All rooms can be set up for a more intimate feel, or if you have a larger guest list and don't want to hire a marquee, multiple dining rooms can be used together to seat up to 400 guests across more than one room. We have minimum catering numbers of 80 adult day guests on Fridays and Saturdays, and 50 for the rest of the week for weddings. It may be possible to lower these numbers with prior agreement at off-peak times or for late availability.

Access to the house for the bridal party and suppliers is typically from 9am (as agreed in your contract) on the day of your wedding. If there's no event the day before your wedding date, it may be possible to access the house between noon and 4pm to add your finishing touches - we'll confirm this at your final planning meeting.

Absolutely - with 35 acres of beautiful grounds, there's plenty of space for a marquee. Marquees should be hired through our preferred suppliers. Please note a daily ground rent charge applies while the marquee is being erected and dismantled, in addition to the hire period. Find out more about Grittleton House and the grounds.

Once you confirm you'd like to proceed, we'll provisionally hold your date for 7 days - giving you time to finalise arrangements with your church or Wiltshire Registrars. To secure your booking, we require a signed booking form and a booking fee (non-refundable). Once we've received both, your booking is formally confirmed.

Yes - we have several licensed spaces both inside and outside the house. To book your civil ceremony, contact Wiltshire Registrars on 0300 003 4570 or email ceremonies@wiltshire.gov.uk.

Every wedding at Grittleton House is bespoke, and the house adapts to suit each occasion. We have smaller, more intimate spaces for ceremonies of around 50 guests, right up to our fabulous Orangery, which seats up to 196 guests for dining and more for a ceremony. Grittleton House has its own beautiful Cotswolds village church, accessed via our private church gate - just 60 steps door to door. The Church of St Mary the Virgin, Grittleton dates back to around 1200, with the four-bay north arcade surviving from that period and the three-stage tower added in the 15th century. Yes - overnight accommodation is available for all wedding celebrations at Grittleton House.

House Bedrooms: 10 luxury bedrooms in the main house, accommodating up to 26 guests. Each room is individually decorated to the highest standard with super king beds, sumptuous duvets and pillows, and an ensuite bathroom - available for all weddings.

Stables Bedrooms: 20 rustic rooms at the Old Stables, typically accommodating 40 guests, although some are suitable for families with additional bunk beds - available for weekend and some weekday weddings.

We're pleased to offer 2 pet-friendly Stables Bedrooms - unfortunately dogs aren't permitted in the House Bedrooms or any dining rooms. Please get in touch for full details, as an additional charge applies. Bedrooms are allocated by the lead booker, so we can't always guarantee your request.

Grittleton House is a private wedding venue in Wiltshire, not a hotel. Our onsite accommodation - House Bedrooms and Stables Bedrooms - must always be booked and coordinated through the wedding couple.

We organise menu tastings at set times during the year, usually midweek and in the off-season.  These take place on a date and time chosen by us.  The tasting includes a selection of dishes from the wedding breakfast menu, rather than the full menu, and the dishes served may not be exactly the same as those you choose for your wedding day.

If you’re unable to attend the scheduled tasting, we may be able to offer an alternative date, but this isn’t guaranteed and depends on availability.  We can also arrange private or bespoke tastings for you at an additional cost, subject to availability. Please get in touch if you have any queries around menu tastings. 

There's no need for outside caterers - our amazing in-house chef team caters for all your needs, and all food is prepared in-house. We're not a dry-hire venue, so unfortunately external catering isn't permitted.

We offer a well-stocked bar, a wide selection of wines and a varied cocktail and reception drink menu. We are happy to offer bespoke couples cocktails, or source a particular drink for our couples.

We do not allow corkage; all drinks must be purchased via the venue.

We love a party, and there are several rooms to choose from! Due to the historic nature of the building, we ask that sound levels are kept to 90 decibels - still plenty loud! DJs and bands are required to remove all their equipment at the end of the night. Find out more about entertainment you could hire for your wedding.

We don't have an in-house PA system or microphone - the acoustics in the house are great, but you're welcome to hire in your own PA equipment.

The use of fireworks is strictly limited, and specific written permission must always be granted. Where permission is given, only our nominated supplier may be used, ensuring displays are carried out by fully licensed, insured professionals. Due to livestock and horses in the surrounding area, all fireworks must be silent or low-noise, with sound restricted to 70-90dB.

Sparklers and flares can be used outside - please supply containers of water or sand for extinguishing them.

Chinese lanterns aren't permitted.
