With a choice of beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces we can provide the perfect setting for each part of your special day. With such a stunning backdrop there are plenty of opportunities to capture those magical moments with some wonderful photographs, no need to worry about the weather.

The Drawing Room is exclusively yours. Overlooking the main drive, take a peep as your family and friends arrive before making your entrance down the magnificent double staircase.

The Drawing Room is an elegant space to be pampered on the morning of your special day, plenty of room for all your favourite people. It includes complimentary refreshments and a bottle of fizz, the perfect way to start your day.

With a selection of beautiful spaces both traditional and unique, there is something to suit all tastes and group sizes

We offer a choice of unique ceremony rooms, choose from the richness and warmth of the red gallery, or the light and airy tones of the yellow gallery. For something larger there is always the Victorian Orangery with stunning views of the terrace and formal gardens. In the glorious summer months enjoy an alfresco ceremony. 

Looking for a more traditional option, Grittleton Village Church, St Mary the Virgin, is a mere 65 steps away, accessed via a private gate.

At Grittleton House we cater for all special occasions and welcome Civil Partnerships, Humanist Ceremonies, Same Sex Weddings, Naming Ceremonies and the Renewal of Vows.

These numbers are just a guide, we have a choice of dining rooms and can accommodate both smaller intimate weddings and larger parties. For larger parties multiple rooms can be used, and the marquee is available to hire.

Your Wedding at Grittleton House

Yours for a Day

The House is yours from 9am to midnight (extensions available) on the day of your wedding. The House will be set from 9am, allowing plenty of time for any finishing touches. The Drawing Room offers the perfect setting for hair and make-up with your most special people, whilst enjoying a complimentary glass of fizz or two and light refreshments. As you enjoy these magical moments, you can relax in the knowledge that your guests are being looked after with an arrival drink or two. 

Finally it’s time to make your entrance via the sweeping double staircase into the ceremony room of your choice. After your ceremony, guests can enjoy drinks and canapés as your photographer clicks away, before being invited to take their seat ready to welcome the newlyweds into the dining room. Experience a mouth-watering wedding breakfast, beautifully prepared by our in-house chefs, paired with a range of fine wines and a selection of alternative drinks. 

As the sun sets, it’s a change of tempo as the party gets started, the perfect opportunity to try out your dance moves and catch up with friends & family, with a few more drinks and tasty evening snacks. 

At the end of your unforgettable day, there is plenty of space for you and your guests to retire. We offer 10 luxury bedrooms in the House and have 20 overflow bedrooms, conveniently located, within the grounds, in our converted Victorian Stables.  On the morning after, catch up with friends and family and enjoy a scrumptious breakfast before bidding everyone a fond farewell.

Every wedding day at Grittleton House is exclusive & unique. With family & friends spread across the country or even the world, a day never seems quite long enough. Our ‘Yours for Longer’ offers the ultimate 3 day wedding experience. Ensuring you and your guests have time to catch up, relax and enjoy your special day whilst enjoying the very best Grittleton House can offer.

With the House yours from 11am on your day of arrival there is plenty of time to take care of all of your final preparations and finishing touches, as well as enjoy a delicious cream tea or a glass of Pimms on the lawn, followed by your rehearsal dinner. There is no need to rush on departure day, time for a stroll around the grounds before gathering in the morning room for a debrief of the wedding day and to enjoy a delicious brunch. This is the ultimate wedding experience allowing plenty of opportunities to create those extra special memories, which can be tailored to meet your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

We only hold one wedding per day and you will have exclusive use of your wedding areas.  On occasions we may have the need to show prospective clients, these visits will be discreet and prior to your wedding guests arriving for a ceremony.  All meetings are scheduled.

Yes, these are all included within the venue hire price. We provide plain white tablecloths, white tableware and crockery & chrome cutlery, if you would like something different you are very welcome to hire this in.

There is a selection of silk flowers around the house, these are all in neutral tones, to suit any colour palette.

Your furry friends are very welcome to join you for the ceremony and for photos, so we ask that they are collected prior to the wedding breakfast.  Dogs are not permitted in the Drawing Room or any dining areas.

We have 2 pet friendly bedrooms in the Stables, contact us for more information.

We have curated a list of recommended suppliers who have worked at Grittleton House previously and who we and our couples have found to be excellent. This is a great place to start the planning process, you do not have to use these suppliers and we are happy to welcome new faces.

We ask people to be respectful of our House & appreciate it is Grade 2 listed, please do not stick anything to the walls or floors, if you are unsure, please ask.  Candles are permitted on mantlepieces and tables but must be in suitable holders.  Real candles are not permitted along the aisle or on floors, there are many great safe alternatives.

We offer a choice of dining rooms of varying sizes.  The Galleries each have a maximum capacity 108 – 126 depending on table styles (long or round).  The orangery can seat a maximum of 168-200 depending on table styles (long or round).  All rooms can also be set up for more intimate styling, equally if you have a large invite list and do not wish to hire a marquee, you can use multiple dining rooms.

We have minimum catering numbers of 80 adult day guests on a Friday & Saturday & 50 for the rest of the week.  These numbers may be lowered by prior agreement at off-peak times and late availability.

Access to the House is from 9am on the day of the wedding.  If there is no event the day prior, it may be possible to attend between noon & 4pm to add your finishing touches, we will confirm this at your final run-through meeting, 4 / 6 weeks before your wedding. 

Absolutely, with 35 acres we have plenty of space for a marquee.  Marquees should be hired through our preferred suppliers.  Please note there is a daily ground rent whilst the marquee is being erected & dismantled.

Once you have confirmed you would like to book, we will hold the date for 7 days, giving you time to confirm with your church or Wiltshire registrars.  Once we receive your signed booking form and booking fee, we will then confirm your booking. 

We will advise you as and when payments are due.  Payments can be made by BACS or cash. NOT bankers draft.

Yes, we have several licensed spaces inside and outside of the house.  To book your Civil Ceremony contact Wiltshire Registrars on 0300 003 4570 or email ceremonies@wiltshire.gov.uk.

Each wedding is bespoke, and the house will adapt to each occasion.  We have smaller spaces suitable for intimate ceremonies and the larger orangery which can seat up to 400 guests! 

Yes, Grittleton has its own beautiful village church, access is via our private church gate, 60 steps door to door.  The church of St Mary the Virgin, Grittleton, originates from c. 1200 and the four-bay north arcade survives from that date. The three-stage tower is from the 15th century. Natural confetti, such as rose petals, is allowed both inside and outside.  Biodegradable confetti and confetti bombs may be used outside, in certain areas.
