Something Old - Something New?
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in your shoe. This is a traditional rhymme, signifying different items that the bride should wear or carry about their person on their wedding day. It is believed by doing so you will receive good fortune and future happiness.
Which side of the church do I sit on?
The left side of the church is the bride's side and the right side of the church is the groom's side. If the two sides look uneven it's a perfectly acceptable practice for the ushers to escort guests to the side that has less people. Remember if it's a Jewish wedding, switch sides...bride on the right, groom on the left.
Receiving Line - What is the correct order?
A formal receiving line is where the bride and groom line up with both sets of parents and greet each guest as they come into the reception. Usually the brides parents would be first in line, followed by the grooms parents and finally the bride and groom. However, it can be just the couple that receive their guests. If both sets of parents are in the line, it might be wise to go through the guest list together before the day so that everyone knows the guests’ names. If there are a lot of guests, this can cause quite a queue, so you might decide on an alternative way of saying ‘hello’ to everyone. One option is for the bride and groom to walk around and have a chat with guests on each table during the reception.
Speeches – What is the correct order for speeches?
The normal order for speeches is; Father of the Bride (or close family friend), the Groom and the Best Man. If desired they may be followed by the Bride and finally the Chief Bridesmaid.
